Thanks for this, Jared, but would you please stop using the Republican-crowd-sourced epithet “entitlements” to characterize Social Security and Medicare.

Surely we know better by now. These are benefits earned and paid for by the American people.

Team Liberty, please let us all know which Tea Party politicians you’re endorsing so we can scream to the entire electorate that they want to end Social Security and Medicare.

And yeah, it sounds like a fantastic idea for the nation to repeal SS and Medicare so we can kick all our grandparents to the curb and let them die in poverty and take away working people’s expectations for a decent retirement — just so Republicans can go waste whatever money is left to make really rich people even richer. Visionary stuff.

It seems to me that both Medicare and Social Security are funded with a dedicated payroll tax. If either program is ended, would not the dedicated tax also end? What would the general budget implications be if that revenue stream stopped?
