Musical Interlude: Sublime Mozart and Some Great Pop

This being Sunday, you probably want to listen to a mass.  I’ve previously posted excerpts from the Bach B-Minor Mass which many quite reasonably consider the king of the genre.  But I love Mozart’s Coronation Mass just as much…I try to listen to it every few months just to realign my cellular structure.  Here are the first two movements with no less than Kathleen Battle in the soprano slot.  Listen to way she introduces Amen at around 3:40 in the Gloria (second link above).  I just listened to it three times in a row to get the time stamp and got chills each time.

OK, from a completely different sector of the music world, my kids are constantly listening to contemporary pop, as they should, but only within the last year or so have I noticed real quality improvements in the song writing.  Not just the ubiquitous Call Me Maybe, which is just about a perfect piece of musical confection, but songs like this one that I find really catchy and appealing.
