Sequester Watch, #17

August 12th, 2013 at 12:49 pm

The sequester continues to inflict damage at both the granular and macro levels.

There’s a piece from GA on a topic we’ve been focusing on here at CBPP: the loss of housing vouchers.  Who’s affected by such losses:

On average, these families earn less than $13,000 a year. About 20 percent of those individuals receiving housing vouchers are disabled adults; another 9 percent are disabled adults with children in the household; another 18 percent are elderly.

These aren’t families that can cut back by postponing a summer vacation or by eating out at restaurants less often.

If Congress can figure out a way to spare airline travelers from longer lines, perhaps it can also figure out a way to keep roofs over the heads of our poorest citizens.

Be sure to see also the Marketplace piece below on the interaction of Head Start cuts and back-to-school.  This doesn’t only impact the kids, of course, it impacts their parents for whom traditional child care is a heavy lift for their budgets.

This listing, and the others you have provided, are a great service to puyblic understanding the impact of a political “deal” gone wrong.
