“Independent contractors” is another place to look. So many employers put their employees down as that even though they’re in a typical employer/employee relationship. Passes the tax burden on to the employee, unless the employee doesn’t know what they’re doing and just doesn’t report income.

I worked against the IRS for 30+ years.

Incomprehensible tax code administered by incompetent people using inadequate IT and smothered by stogy bureaucracy.

Other than that, things are swell.

Well, I do believe we are becoming another Greece but not in the sense the Fox News and company would have us believe. Like Greece, we have a privileged class that refuses to contribute to society and a work force that is working longer hours for less money and has to bail out the banks without any real change to their economy.

Austerity is not the answer. Fair pay and fair pensions are what’s needed. Everything else follows middle class net income, especially when it’s not consumed by unfair health costs, education costs, and cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

Well, yes, but surely an even more salient difference is that the US controls its own currency and does not owe debt in a foreign currency? The US can always repay its debt if it chooses to tell the Fed to pay up. The Greeks can’t and investors know it.
