When you’re stuck on hold on the phone, you should have the option as to whether you want to listen to the crap music they always play.

It could be worse – rap music score on The Great Gatsby new movie sort of diluted the mood.

    • Nick Batzdorf says:

I loved it! Great film – and the rap music was part of the stylization.

Anyway, the problem with on-hold music isn’t just that it’s crap (although it is). It’s that – along with the blabbing about using the website you just freaking used, it didn’t help, and that’s why you’re on the damn phone – distracts you so you can’t do something else while you’re waiting.

Somebody should come up with a smartphone app that plays your music instead. Recently heard a string arrangement of “Purple Haze”….

It used to be there were three things you were never supposed to believe:

    1. The check is in the mail.
    2. But darling, I’ll still respect you in the morning.

    3. I’m from the government. I’m here to help.

Communications technology has given us a fourth thing:

    4. Your call is very important to us.

If you are speaking with an economist, of course, there is a fifth:

    5. I hope that I’m wrong but..

No economist can tolerate being wrong, even he’s just predicted the end of the world.

At a legal aid office I worked at we had All Classical music (www.allclassical.org) playing when on hold, and yet I received complaint from a family counselor that she “had to listen to a depressing news segment.” Go figure.

  6. save_the_rustbelt says:

The IRS used to play a nice classical piece.

Now, not so nice. But their music is still better than their IT.
