    And don’t forget an initial rational for the interstate highway system was defense. I would argue it played a major role in winning the cold war via the extra productivity it enabled. So these cuts really make no sense.

    Although, interestingly, at the time it was fought as raising inequality as the new highways mainly went through minority neighborhoods.

    I don’t see the mystery here. The House budget in particular is very clear about its priority: causing as much mischief as possible while Obama is in the White House so they can blame it on him.
