They’re all connected, as I argue over at WaPo. If you’ve got an idea for how, in the interest of insulation from the whims of fact-averse appropriators, to best self-fund our statistical agencies, leave it in the comments section.

I love your work JB but if any neuron in your brain thinks that this fully Republican controlled No New Taxes Congress is going to pass any new dedicated tax that funds the statistical agencies, let me know what meds you’re on so I can avoid them. Your idea of a tiny FTT seems like the most logical solution, I don’t think you’ll get a better idea since an annual crowd funding of a few billion dollars is a huge stretch….

More worrisome is that Ryan will not only direct the CBO to just insert his estimates for revenue growth and spending reductions based on his word, like he has done in the past, but things like dynamic scoring and other flim flam methods will be used by Ryan and the Trumpster to claim the facts are on their side…

    Happy New Year!

Agree–more of a marker, really, for what we should do if team fact-based ever gets back in power.

One thing you wish to avoid is the horrendous change in the patent office. It’s funded by fees so the agents have an incentive to encourage more business and grant more patents. This stifles innovation by allowing patents for non patent worthy inventions. It also tilts business towards corporations that can afford to file patents on anything and everything. (that and also Obama and Democrats change of first to invent to first to file)
