Friday Musical Interlude: Outsourced!

September 16th, 2011 at 12:32 am

Someone close to me pointed out that I’m kind of old, and that while my musical selections are fine, well…I’m just kind of old.  It is true that my tastes run from around 1700-1975.

She suggested that on occasion I outsource the Friday interlude, maybe to someone who wasn’t so…old.  While the outsourcing thing can be problematic at 9.1% unemployment, I still like that idea, so I asked my home girl MB to kick it.

Hi Peeps,

As the first guest blogger on OTE, I have to say that I know Jared tends to lean toward jazz, blues, folk, and other “old school” interludes — and I love them just like any of you — but he invited me here to shake things up just a bit.  Unfortunately, I’m going to have to disappoint him.  You see, I might be younger, but I’m old school at heart.  Old school.

Given all of our hard work in trying to create jobs and grow the economy, I believe sometimes you just have to renew your spirit if only for a minute (or 3 minutes and 42 seconds, to be exact).  I suspect you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who could resist the urge to dance when they hear Earth, Wind, and Fire roll up with “September“.

Those horns are workin’ it!   I can’t remember the first time I heard it, but it never fails to bring a huge smile to my face.  In these fiscally gloomy days, don’t we need that kind of energy right now?  Let’s all keep trying to do what’s best for our country.  And chase “the clouds away”.  Hopefully those” golden dreams” aren’t far off.

Ba de ya,

– MB

PS: In case some of you wonder what it’s like to work with Jared… It rocks!

PPS: September was when I met my hubby.  (Shout out!)

How about next time embedding the video into this page instead of just linking out to one? Also, since this is a music topic, if you like ‘September’ also check out ‘In the Stone’, one of EWF’s most overlooked songs. Even Jared might like it. http://youtu.be/fbPxUxNtVR8

In an effort to inch you up in time, here’s a recent take on “September” by Pomplamoose.

If his grandmother can get down to it, so can you! 🙂

Welcome to Jared world, I’m 62 and I’ll with Kris and Lars on these thanks for the links you 2. EWF was an east coast band and that’s all I have to say from the left coast.

Here’s a short on who I consider the finest guitarist to every live and I’ve seen 99% of them in small venues.

    Greetings!

Not a bad selection. On the plus side…it’s September! It’s Friday! The market was up over 500 points this week! And EWF does a pretty jaunty little number that gets us all up off our feet. So a decent offering on the whole.

    However…

If you thought EWF would drag Friday Musical Interlude into the 21st Century…well, heh…

But I think it’s perfectly fine to find your niche and stick with it. Had I been in charge I would have continued with Wednesday’s mid week offering. Try this, you won’t get it out of your head anytime soon.
