Keith Hennessey and I have a pretty rousing debate on budget policy, the role of government, the shutdown debacle, and more over at the NYT Room for Debate room.

I love Hennessey’s last post, including this statement,
“Let Representatives Paul Ryan and David Camp negotiate with Senators Patty Murray, Max Baucus, Jeff Sessions, and Orin [sic] Hatch.”
Two Republican Representatives, ZERO Democratic Representatives, two Republican Senators, one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, and finally the Democratic chairwoman of the Senate Budget Committee constitute a group that will be able to negotiate a “fair” agreement on the budget. I truly admire your patience, Dr. Bernstein, with trying to debate these budget issues rationally, with someone who clearly just has an agenda to advance.
