I keep meaning to post a link to this great article from that renowned economics journal, People.
It’s a solid summary of the on-the-ground benefits of a school repair program like FAST!
As one educator says in the piece, referring to a dilapidated school:
“This space doesn’t show that adults place a priority on schools, and students rightly think, ‘My education is not very important to you.’”
Or maybe you’d be more convinced by this 10-year old:
“It would make it better if we could run without having to trip over the old boards in the gym.”
If People decided they wanted to, they could influence electoral politics in a *massive* way.
I bet if Obama ran on FAST, he would win in a landslide and carry some Dems with him to the House (and hopefully the Senate will have the brains to abolish the filibuster this time!).
I can keep on hoping that Obama and team is playing eleventy-dimensional chess, but it’s hard to keep the faith.
